Exam results show girls’ academic superiority

WEDNESDAY’S Junior Certificate results have again highlighted the better academic ability of female students, who did better in the 10 most popular subjects at higher level.

Statistics provided by the State Examinations Commission, which issued results to more than 56,000 students on Wednesday show girls outperformed boys in all higher level subjects except material technology, metalwork and technology.

In a similar trend to last year, some of the biggest gaps between those getting honours grades (A, B or C) at higher level occur in the languages.
