THE Government is set to receive just over €13 million from the EU to offset the cost of dealing with last year’s floods.

Independent MEP Marian Harkin said the money can be spent on restoring damaged infrastructure and to compensate for temporary accommodation and emergency services.

“The Government must use some of this money as seed capital to tackle the longer term problems and prevent flooding in the future – because it will happen again,” the Sligo MEP said.
