YOUNG drivers are to face tough new rules on driving tests with the announcement next week of long-awaited changes to the driver licensing system.

As road safety chiefs last night expressed sorrow over the death of four teenagers killed in the crash in Killarney, Co Kerry, it was confirmed that the graduated driving licensing system (GDLS) for learner drivers is set be released to the public next week.

Commenting on the Co Kerry single-vehicle crash, Road Safety Authority (RSA) chief executive Noel Brett said: “We don’t have all of the full facts on the collision but want to offer our condolences to the families, friends and communities of the five young people involved.
