CONSUMERS could face an increase in their electricity bills from next October as part of the Government’s plans to lower energy costs for business users.

Domestic users are being asked to subsidise energy prices charged to big industrial consumers in a bid to boost Ireland’s competitiveness as a base for large international firms.

The Commission for Energy Regulation (CER) has confirmed that householders will have to pay higher transmission charges from October as part of a “rebalancing of tariffs”.
