ALMOST 50 students who allegedly cheated or broke exam rules did not get a result in one or more Leaving Certificate subjects on Wednesday.

A further 67 results of students suspected of breaching rules after suspicions arose during marking are under threat of having one or more grades withheld.

The figures from the State Examinations Commission (SEC) are similar to those at this stage a year ago, when 50 results were withheld and another 52 were not released pending the outcome of further investigation. Almost 20 of the students concerned subsequently had a grade given out after satisfying the authorities that no rules were broken.
