Community prays for boy hit by golf ball

PRAYERS continued to be said in Co Limerick for a nine-year-old boy seriously injured after being struck by a golf ball in a freak accident.

Jamie Mullane-Forest, from Shanagolden in Co Limerick, remained in a critical condition in hospital last night following the accident earlier this week.

He was playing with friends when he was hit in the back of the head.

The accident happened at 7pm last Tuesday in the Parkview Estate area of Shanagolden.

Emergency services were alerted and the boy received treatment on the roadside from Shannon Doc.

He was taken to the Mid Western Regional Hospital in Limerick, but transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin later that night where he underwent emergency surgery.

A spokesperson for Beaumont Hospital confirmed the boy was being cared for in the intensive care unit of the hospital where his condition was described as critical.

Locals in the close-knit community of Shanagolden spent yesterday praying for the schoolboy and his family who have been keeping vigil at his bedside in Dublin.
