Black swan ‘escaped from captivity’ some years before

A BLACK swan native to Australia and spotted on the River Shannon in recent weeks was believed to have escaped from captivity in Lispole, Co Kerry, some years ago.

Birdwatch Ireland has dismissed reports that the swan came to Ireland all the way from Australia.

But the group confirmed it may have travelled as far as Iceland from here and returned again.
