Boy critical after being hit by golf ball

A NINE-YEAR-OLD boy was in a critical condition in hospital last night after he was hit by a golf ball in a tragic accident.

Jamie Mullane-Forest, from Shanagolden in Co Limerick was out playing with friends when the accident occurred.

The had been playing in the Parkview Estate in Shanagolden when he was struck on the back of the head by the golf ball on Tuesday at about 7pm.

The boy, who suffered a head injury, was taken to the Mid Western Regional Hospital in Limerick but was transferred later that night to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin.

A spokesperson for Beaumont described his condition yesterday as “critical”.

Prayers were being said for the popular young boy in the close knit community of Shanagolden yesterday.

“This was a tragic accident and all our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family,” said one local.

Jamie is due to start third class at Pallaskenry National School next month.

His family were at his bedside in Beaumont Hospital last night.
