SEVEN months after a cargo ship lost seven containers overboard in a storm off the Waterford coast, part of the load continues to be washed up 300 kilometres away on several beaches in Clare.

Clare County Council has confirmed it is investigating reports that empty plastic butter cartons have been washing up on beaches as far north as Quilty and Doonbeg.

The local authority has also confirmed that its staff have been clearing similar plastic containers from Kilkee beach on a daily basis for the past six weeks.
