Vehicles using Limerick Tunnel overcharged

AN unspecified number of cars using the new Limerick Tunnel have been overcharged, management confirmed yesterday.

Tom King, general manager of Direct Route, which owns and runs the tunnel highway, said the overcharging of a “relatively small number” of cars had resulted from a software glitch.

The car drivers, it emerged, were charged the rate for commercial vehicles. Some motorists were hit for €3.20 — the commercial vehicle rate — instead of the €1.80 car charge.
