A buyer has not been firmly identified, but the Department of the Environment confirmed it had received “expressions of interest” in the machinery – whose reliability in elections couldn’t be guaranteed.

The department said an interdepartmental task force charged with resolving the issue of the e-voting machines was overseeing the process.
