Gardaí probe fatal stabbing

GARDAÍ in Newbridge, Co Kildare, are investigating the fatal stabbing of a Polish national.

The body of the 21-year-old man was found in a rented house at Moorefield Park in the town at about 5am on Monday morning and a postmortem confirmed he had been stabbed in the chest.

Gardaí sealed off the area and carried out a forensic examination of the house and surrounds.

It emerged yesterday that there may have been a row near to the house in the hours leading up to the man’s death.

It also emerged that the young man and his family moved to Ireland a number of years ago.

He lived at the house with his mother, stepfather and younger brother.

Neighbours described him as very polite young man.

As they tried to establish a motive for the attack gardaí were yesterday carrying out house-to-house enquiries in the area and asked that anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area around Moorefield Park between midnight and 5am on Monday to contact Newbridge Garda Station on 045-431212.
