Stars in the hood to celebrate fresh beginning
Called Stars in the Hood, the day-long concert is being organised by a community group who aims to give the regenerated estate a new image.
One of those behind the concert, Jamie Daly, said: “This is going to be a clean, positive rapping event. We’ll have huge talent competing against one another, dancing and rapping all day.”
The rapper day is being held to celebrate the opening of a new community garden in the estate.
The garden was developed by local people, with the guidance of the Moyross Monks of the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal Order, who live and work in the huge estate.
Rapper groups from the US, German, UK and Italy have already indicated their intention to come to the event.
“Moyross on August 8 is going to show the whole country what we can achieve as a community.
“We built the community garden with the help of Jason Hamilton, a horticulturist from Belfast. Local people, with their own hands, have done the work and we are showing what, as a community together, we can do to transform waste land in the area,” Mr Daly said.
He said they plan to get CDs made of the big rapper day.
“We expect to attract several thousand people to the big day and we will have a huge stage erected so everybody will get a great view. We are thankful to Limerick City Council for giving us permission to develop the garden.”
