GARDAÍ are investigating if there is a connection between the discovery of a body in a fishing net off the south-east coast and the disappearance of a man from Co Cork.

State Pathologist Professor Marie Cassidy is to carry out a post mortem today on a torso which was caught in the nets of a trawler off Helvick Head west Waterford and discovered by fishermen last Tuesday.

Last April, a skull was also taken from the sea off the same coastline by another trawler. The skull was taken to a hospital in Tallaght, Dublin, for dental examination and DNA testing.
