Crash pensioner cousin’s plea

THE cousin of the pensioner killed in the crash has praised communities in the grief-stricken county for sticking together but warned more needs to be done on road safety campaigning.

Crash pensioner cousin’s plea

John Friel described the pain of families affected by the road carnage which left seven young men and his cousin Hugh dead.

“It was really nice to see the other families that were bereaved over the last number of years being there at the hospital to support the families.”

More road safety campaigning though was needed, said Mr Friel.

“The message has to go across to those people... the dangers of a car and what it leaves behind.

“The poor families that are suffering at home, they’re the people my heart goes out to.”

The whole of the community had “united and come together” since the horrific crash, he told RTÉ radio.

Mr Friel added: “If the youth of Inishowen could just get the message that you just can’t go out driving on some of the roads we have that are maybe not suitable for that type of driving”.
