TCD students angry as 30 academics promoted

STUDENTS at Trinity College Dublin, facing the prospect of further cuts to services in the autumn, are angry at the promotion of almost 30 academics.

The promotions, approved by university management a fortnight ago, bring 17 staff up to senior lecturer grade, seven to associate professor and three people have been made professors.

Trinity College Dublin said the process from which the promotions arose began in November 2008, five months before the public service moratorium took effect, and that they have been promoted in title only.
