Three arrested in link to boy’s murder

The three arrests, of two women and a man, took place yesterday morning and bring to seven the total number of people who have now been questioned in relation to the death of the 17-year-old.

Daniel McAnaspie had been in the care of the HSE when he disappeared in the early hours of February 26 from the Whitestown estate in Blanchardstown.

His body was eventually found in a drain on farmland at Rathfeigh in Co Meath on May 13. He had been stabbed a number of times in the neck and upper body, possibly with a garden shears.

One of the women arrested yesterday is 17 years old and the other woman is 42. The man who was arrested is aged 23. All three were detained under Section 30 of The Offences Against The State Act and are suspected of withholding information. They were taken for questioning to Blanchardstown and Finglas Garda stations and can be held for up to three days.

The three people were arrested following a series of raids on various properties in the Blanchardstown area yesterday morning.

Last month four men were questioned in connection with Daniel’s murder.

Two men in their 20s were questioned on suspicion of murder, while the two other men were detained on suspicion of withholding information.

All four are from the Blanchardstown area.

The circumstances of Daniel McAnaspie’s death is one of the cases to be probed by the Government-appointed Independent Review Group.
