Doyle weds childhood sweetheart

THE hand of Thierry Henry delivered a romantic consolation to Irish international striker, Kevin Doyle, yesterday when he married his teenage sweetheart, Jenny Harney, at the Holy Trinity Abbey Church in Adare.

Had Ireland made it to South Africa, the couple would have had to find a new date for their big day.

Crowds visiting the heritage village, gathered in the sunshine to get a glimpse of the couple.

Kevin from Killurin, Co Wexford, and Jenny from Wellingtonbbridge, Co Wexford have been going out with each other since they were 16.

Fellow internationals Stephen Kelly, Shane Long, Stephen Hunt, Paul McShane and Daryl Murphy were among the 180 guests who attended the reception at luxurious Adare Manor.

The guests also included Irish soccer personality, Pat Dolan.

Kevin was driven to the church in his own Maserati sports car by his brother and best man, Padraig.

Jenny, accompanied by her father, Terry, arrived in a 1960 Silver Cloud Rolls Royce.

The groom arrived 10 minutes before the 2pm ceremony and Jenny kept up bridal tradition, by being just 15 minutes behind schedule.

Outside the church, Jenny was greeted by her mother, Claire and sister, Sarah, who was bridesmaid.

The groom’s parents, Paddy and Bernie, were among the first to arrive at the church.

Fr Michael Hore, who is a friend of Kevin’s, officiated at the ceremony.

The bride wore a long off-white dress created by English designer Caroline Castigliano. Kevin wore a grey evening suit with black lapels and black tie.
