A TRANSATLANTIC jet was grounded at Shannon Airport last night after an exit door was damaged while a sick passenger was removed from the plane.

The Continental Airlines flight from Edinburgh to New York had been forced to divert to Shannon just after midday after an elderly man become unwell.

Passengers were accommodated in local hotels overnight.
