Dáil told abused children abandoned

CHILDREN suffering repeated abuse and exhibiting suicidal tendencies are being abandoned by the HSE, the Dáil has heard.

Fine Gael children’s spokesperson Alan Shatter also warned how vulnerable school pupils in need of immediate care were being failed by the state.

Mr Shatter hit out at “minimal progress” in child services in the 12 months since the Ryan report into the systematic rape and torture of children in state institutions provoked a national debate.
