THE clip-clop of horses echoed around crowded Killarney during the June bank holiday, as has been happening since the 19th century at least.

But human eyes and nostrils detected a noticeable change – the virtual disappearance of dung from the streets of the town and pathways in Killarney National Park.

After a long battle of resistance, which ended with a High Court ruling against them last month, Killarney’s iconic jarveys have fitted controversial dung-catchers to their traps and carriages.
