Passengers rescued from ferry

PASSENGERS on board a ferry on Lough Corrib, including two pregnant women, had a lucky escape after their vessel went aground in low water.

The 32 passengers had to be evacuated as darkness fell on Thursday night when the 100-seater sightseeing vessel Corrib Princess got into difficulty.

The Irish Red Cross Corrib Mask Rescue service rescued the passengers in an operation which went on from 10pm on Thursday until 4am yesterday.

Nobody was injured in the incident.
