Threat from subsidence and falling trees to close section of tourist route

THE danger of major subsidence and falling trees will necessitate the closure of a section of the main road artery into West Cork.

County engineer Noel O’Keeffe said he could understand the frustration expressed by traders in Bandon and Innishannon, who are concerned they will lose business during the peak tourist season.

However, Mr O’Keeffe said he had no choice but to close a 2km section of the N71 road on the western side of Innishannon because of the danger it presents.
