AN Irish-owned aid vessel was sailing closer to Gaza’s shores last night amid threats by Israel that it was standing firm over its blockade ofthe war-torn Palestinian territory.

Anxious activists aboard the Rachel Corrie were undeterred about delivering urgent supplies to the enclosed enclave after Israeli commandos stormed a flotilla earlier this week and killed nine people.

Speaking aboard the cargo ship in the Mediterranean around 800km off the Palestinian coast, Irish skipper Derek Graham told the Irish Examiner: “We’re still en route to Gaza and hopefully should arrive there late on Friday or early Saturday morning.
