A MOVE by the Killarney tourism industry to invite the queen to visit the well-known beauty spot is being opposed by hardline republicans.

The Kerry branch of the Irish Hotels’ Federation (IHF) and Killarney Chamber of Commerce of Tourism want to invite the queen to come next year, the 150th anniversary of the historic visit of Queen Victoria to Killarney.

“There has never been a better time, politically, economically, or any other way, for the queen to visit Ireland,” said Kerry IHF spokesman Michael Rosney.
