Bord Gáis discount change
Last month, the energy regulator – the Commission for Energy Regulation – said it will deregulate the electricity market, allowing the ESB to re-enter the fray for new customers when its market share (currently about 70%) falls to 60%.
This is expected in the next few months through people switching to the other two operators Bord Gáis and Airtricity. Those utilities had hoped the ESB would have to reach a 50% market share before deregulation was triggered.
