Further tribute programmes in the pipeline
During the remainder of the week The Gerry Ryan show will be presented by Ruth Scott.
More than 6,000 texts were received during RTÉ 2fm’s Gerry Ryan tribute programme on Saturday morning.
Tributes continue to flow into the Gerry Ryan show email address and an unprecedented number of tweets have been sent.
A spokesperson for RTÉ said the national broadcaster wanted to acknowledge the scale and depth of the support received from all around the country.
RTÉ pointed out that all correspondence, including the books of condolence, would be passed onto Mr Ryan’s family.
Heartfelt tributes to Mr Ryan were paid yesterday by veteran broadcasters Pat Kenny and Ronan Collins.
The RTÉ spokesperson added that, pending confirmation of plans for the funeral service, 2fm was also planning further tribute programming this week in recognition of Mr Ryan’s immense contribution, not only to RTÉ 2fm but to life in Ireland over the past 31 years.
There will also be tribute programming on RTÉ Radio 1 but details have yet to be confirmed.
RTÉ News and Current Affairs will be providing coverage of the book of condolence for the late broadcaster and hopes to cover funeral services once they are confirmed.
There are plans for a TV documentary to commemorate the contribution made by Mr Ryan to Irish broadcasting, in particular, and to Irish TV viewers.
The spokesperson said the television documentary would feature colleagues, commentators and friends in an assessment and exploration of Mr Ryan’s inimitable broadcasting style.
