First Irishman rows solo across Atlantic

BROADSIDED by waves, tossed into the ocean, and narrowly missing out on watching yesterday’s Munster match – such were the travails of a solo row across the Atlantic by Sean McGowan, the first Irishman to do so.

With 2,500 nautical miles under his belt Limerick man Sean finally set foot on dry ground in Antigua yesterday after 118 days at sea.

Last night his wife, Lorraine, said she was “delighted and relieved” that her husband had made the crossing safely despite being visited by all sorts of bad luck during the trip.
