Obama gives the tip for summer gigs at historic fort
The line-up for Kinsale Arts Week Charles Fort gigs has just been announced and big interest is expected in the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, who will play Charles Fort on Thursday, July 15.
The Bootleg Beatles, no strangers to Glastonbury and even Buckingham Palace, will be filling the stage with the sound of the ’60s on Friday, July 16, while sultry chanteuse, Camille O’Sullivan, will bring her red-hot new show to the 17th century fort on the Saturday night. Maria Doyle Kennedy will support Camille while the All-Nigerian Afrobeat & Highlife band Oleku will do warm-up for the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble.
The Hypnotic Brass Ensemble’s music is a heady mix of jazz, soul and funk and the man who many would argue is the world’s coolest politician, Barack Obama, has admitted: “I can’t get enough of these guys. They soothe the soul”.
The organisers of this year’s festival confess to being really excited by the line-up for the annual Charles Fort gigs.
“The Hypnotic Brass Ensemble are infectiously groovesome. They supported Blur’s comeback gig last year and collaborated on the recent third Gorilliaz album Plastic Beach, while the Bootleg Beatles are as close as you will get to seeing John, Paul, George and Ringo perform live in 2010. Even George Martin thinks they are ‘terrific’,” said a spokeswoman.
“And Camille? Seriously, Google her performance on Later With Jools Holland. It’s jaw-dropping. She’s a show stealer.”
Tickets for the gigs go on sale today and the full programme for Kinsale Arts Week will be announced next Wednesday.
