A DAUGHTER of a murdered woman made an emotional farewell to her mother, who should have been celebrating her 58th birthday next Wednesday.

Catherine Smart’s daughter, Mary, told mourners at her funeral that the premature “Happy Birthday” message was also coming from Ms Smart’s other daughter, Michelle, son, Tony, and grandchildren, Christopher and Danielle.

Ms Smart’s children and grandchildren travelled from Wales to attend her requiem Mass at the Church of the Holy Rosary in Midleton, Co Cork, yesterday.
