Private courses branded PreMed ‘a waste of money’

PARENTS investing heavily in a medical career for their child should be wary of private grind schools offering “PreMed” courses that do not equate to the actual first year of a medical degree.

The warning was issued yesterday by doctors attending the AGM of the Irish Medical Organisation (IMO), under way in Killarney, Co Kerry.

Addressing the conference, junior hospital doctor, Anthony O’Connor, said there were “certain private sector educational institutions now offering fifth and sixth year students what they are calling a ‘PreMed’ course. This is not PreMed”.
