Volunteers sought for butterfly scheme

NATURE lovers around the country are being sought to assist in recording Ireland’s butterfly population.

Volunteers sought for butterfly scheme

The Irish Butterfly Monitoring Scheme is being run by the National Biodiversity Data Centre and, according to its co-ordinator Dr Eugenie Regan, the data collected is of great value because butterflies are highly sensitive to changes in the environment and fluctuations in their numbers could help to identify environmental problems.

Over 100 volunteers from Donegal to Wexford are already participating in the scheme but new volunteers are needed for this summer.
