Abuse support group highlights gaps in domestic violence laws

ALL couples in an intimate relationship should be afforded legislative protection under the Domestic Violence Act, a support group has said.

Women’s Aid has been raising concerns over how the Civil Partnership Bill will affect women seeking protection from abusive partners.

Under current laws, any partner seeking a safety order cannot do so if they have lived with the other person for six out of the previous 12 months.
