INTERNET sensation Crystal Swing will help Eircom launch its new faster broadband service today.

Crystal Swing to launch web service

The east Cork country music family trio, who created a worldwide sensation with a YouTube clip of their hit, She Drinks Tequila, will record a new music video in eircom’s corporate headquarters in Dublin.

It will then be uploaded to YouTube using Eircom’s new Next Generation Broadband service.

Mary Murray Burke and her teenagers, Dervla and the hucklebucking Derek, declined to comment ahead of the gig.

Derek said the family are taking a break from media work and he directed all queries to the band’s manager, Hugh Rogers.

But it is understood the family are stepping back from talking directly to the media after it was incorrectly reported last week that Mary would be leaving the band. She has since moved to assure Crystal Swing fans that she is staying put.

The Lisgoold band wowed the nation last month with their Late Late Show performance. Their YouTube clip was spotted by US comedian Ellen DeGeneres who tweeted about it on her social networking Twitter account sparkling a surge of new viewers from around the world.

The Crystal Swing clip had recorded almost half a million hits this weekend, making it the most viewed YouTube clip for March.

Their internet success prompted Eircom to invite the band to record their new music video in their headquarters this morning.

An Eircom spokesperson said Crystal Swing is a perfect example of what can be achieved using the internet.

“Crystal Swing are a product of the internet and they have achieved such heights,” she said.

“We are absolutely delighted that they are coming in to perform for us.”

She promised that the Next Generation Broadband service will provide customers with much faster speeds without congestion.

Eircom chief executive Paul Donovan, other senior company executives and a “select” group of Crystal Swing fans will attend this morning’s performance.
