Patrick St Penney’s scoops award

ONE of Cork’s iconic stores has been declared first quarter winner of the Cork Business Association/Heineken Ireland business of the year award.

Patrick St Penney’s scoops award

At a function in the brewery last night, Penney’s was presented with the award by the chairperson of the judging panel, James O’Sullivan.

He said Penney’s had been trading for over 30 years and attracts a very large and loyal customer base into its store and hence to the city centre. “It is an integral part of retailing in Cork and continues a long tradition of retail on the site which from the early 1900s was the Munster Arcade,” Mr O’Sullivan said. He said the store was nominated for its long standing trading relationship with Cork city. Last year Penney’s won a number of major retailing awards. Readers of the fashion magazine, Prima, also voted Penney’s the Comfort High Street Fashion Award for 2009. This award specifically honours the store on Patrick Street. The latest award was accepted by Penney’s general manager who said it represented a great vote of confidence the business both in Patrick Street and in Wilton.
