CORK’S Opera House needs to attract more high-profile acts and a wider audience to secure its commercial future, a prominent member of the board said last night.

Solicitor Gerald Kean said he is linking with leading concert promoters and booking agents as part of a drive to get top acts to the Opera House.

He said getting popular music acts to perform at the historic venue on so-called ‘dark nights’, when the venue would otherwise be empty, would boost its income, reduce its financial dependence on other agencies, and allow it to stand on “its own two feet”.
