Brewer helps supply water

DROUGHT-hit Dubliners were turning to Guinness last night as water taps ran dry in homes across the capital.

Brewer helps supply water

The brewery, as seen in the page 8 photo, is using its tankers to get water to thousands of people affected by burst mains caused by the recent freeze. Queues of people lined up with jugs, pots and pans at the lorries, which can usually carry 30,000 litres of the black stuff.

Dublin City Council worker Michael Walsh, manning a Guinness truck at Kilmore Estate in Santry, said: “Everybody is thinking we’re giving away free Guinness but they’re happy with water... It’s more valuable than gold at the minute."
