THE hundreds of thousands of people expected to travel over the next two days in the run-up to the Christmas holidays are being warned to be very careful as temperatures could fall to as low as -8C in parts of the country.

While much of the south of the country has avoided snow over the last couple of days, Met Éireann is predicted there will be wintry showers there today.

“It will remain very cold countrywide with temperatures reaching 3C at best and many places staying close to freezing throughout the day,” a spokesman for the weather service said.
