IN the last year as work has dried up, almost 45,000 non-Irish national adults have left the country, figures from the Central Statistics Office show.

In the third quarter of 2008, there were 477,600 non-nationals over 15 years of age in the country according to the quarterly national household survey for that period. The CSO statistics show there are now just 432,800.

That 9.4% decrease over the last year compares with an increase of 19,200 or 4.2% in the year to the third quarter of 2008.
