One A&E unit to see 4,000 children over Christmas

MORE than 4,000 children are expected to attend to attend just one Emergency Department &unit in Dublin this Christmas as hospitals warn parents to guard against child injury this festive period.

Temple Street Children’s Hospital has one of the busiest EDs in the country and one of its emergency consultants issued families with a safety checklist in a bid to lower the number of children coming through the doors.

Temple Street typically sees about 50,000 admissions a year but Christmas is by far the busiest period, with children presenting with injuries ranging from scratches after falling off bicycles through to injuries from trampolines and scalding.
