WIDESCALE searches are being carried out in Limerick for a middle-aged man who has been missing since the weekend.

Search under way for missing man

Francis Green, 48, originally from Kilteely, Co Limerick, has in recent years been living in a basement flat in the city at Hartstonge Street.

Gardaí were yesterday carrying out house to house inquiries as the search operation was stepped up.

A Garda spokesman said that while they are treating it as missing person matter, they had placed Mr Green’s disappearance in the highest risk category.

He was last seen on Saturday.

CCTV cameras in the city centre have been scanned to trace his last known movements.

Mr Green who is single and unemployed, moved to live in the city some years ago.

Gardaí have been visiting houses and apartments in the Hartstonge Street and Newnham Street areas showing photos of the missing man.

The Shannon-based coast guard helicopter has been assisting in the search.
