UP TO 100 families face an anxious wait to learn if they can proceed with their planned adoptions of children from Russia after the authorities there put Ireland on a “blacklist” destination.

Minister for Children Barry Andrews will put a solution to the Russian authorities in the coming days which it is hoped will assure them of the safety of their children coming to Ireland and the compliance of parents with completing the proper paperwork.

Because of the focus on problems surrounding adoptions from Vietnam, the Department of Health admitted it has not been able to concentrate as much time and resources on solving the issue with Russia as it would have liked.
