A CHIEF prison officer claimed yesterday that the voice on a mobile phone confiscated from Catherine Nevin was that of sitting Fine Gael councillor Dr Bill Tormey.

Fine Gael refused to comment last night after a court heard a message had been left by the Finglas politician on a phone found in the women’s section of Mountjoy Prison.

Chief prison officer Mary O’Connor told Dublin District Court when she seized the phone from Nevin, she checked its messages. One voice message was that of Dr Tormey, who Ms O’Connor claimed she recognised as “a public figure”.
