Website to list comparative prices across top supermarkets
SmartShopper.ie provides independent prices of 250 products and tells customers where to go to get the best deal.
Set up by Dublin entrepreneur Fiona Looney, it also lists special offers and promotions from all supermarkets to help find the best value for a weekly shop, which supermarket is the cheapest and who has the best offers for the week.
Ms Looney said she set up the site out of a sense of frustration at the disparity of prices in different shops.
âHaving read research results and from speaking with friends and family, I was sure I wasnât alone in seeking a solution to a more efficient and cost-conscious way of grocery shopping,â she said.
âWe are independently collecting the data and can instantly see how much each will cost across the supermarkets,â she said.
âWe are capturing the North as well so people can really see where savings can be made.â
Ms Looney said the average consumer spends up to âŹ10,000 every year on grocery shopping.
âI donât think that we were really getting the best value for money every week. Our site will narrow this task and determine which stores are offering the best value,â she said.
SmartShopper.ie allows consumers to log on to check the weekly prices offered on the top 250 leading products and brands across all Irish supermarkets â everything from bread and meat to fruit and sweets.
Furthermore, the independent website will detail special weekly promotions on offer by store as well. Additionally, the 50 best-selling products in Aldi and Lidl will be detailed on a weekly basis.
As part of the launch, Irish consumers can avail of a free one-week trial. After that a 12-month subscription to SmartShopper.ie is available at just âŹ11.99, less than âŹ1 per month.
