Man, 33, dies in fall from balcony

GARDAÍ are describing the events leading to the death of man in north Dublin yesterday as a “domestic incident”.

In the incident a 33-year-old fell five floors from the balcony of a flat complex on to the front windscreen of a Volkswagen car at around 7am yesterday morning. The Lithuanian national was rushed to the Mater Hospital were he later died of his injuries.

A 31-year-old woman, also from Lithuania and believed to be the man’s partner, was taken to the hospital for treatment to injuries received prior to the man’s fall.

Her injuries are not life-threatening.

The incident occurred at the Hamptons, Santry Cross, Ballymun, and local sources said a late-night drink session may have preceded the fatal fall.

No one has been charged in relation to the incident with gardaí conducting door to door inquires and awaiting the woman’s treatment before questioning her.

A number of members of the local eastern European community are expected to help gardaí with their investigation.

Officers sealed off the area while the Garda Technical Bureau and the state pathologist’s office undertook investigations.

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to the incident to make contact, or for anyone who may have been in contact with the couple leading up to the time of the man’s death to contact them at Ballymun Garda Station at 01-6664400.
