Man remanded over death

A BRAZILIAN man has been remanded in custody accused of killing Irish businessman Paul Houston in Portugal.

A judge ordered the 26-year-old to be held until his trial for beating the 51-year-old to death on the Algarve.

He appeared in court in Portimao Thursday evening, charged with homicide and robbery.

A 19-year-old Brazilian charged with the same offences was released on bail by the judge.

He must report regularly to police and has had his passport confiscated.

Mr Houston was killed while on holiday with his wife in the seaside town of Alvor.

The father-of-four was attacked as he made his way back from a bar, and was found in a pool of blood in the early hours of Sunday, September 6.

Police arrested the two Brazilians on Wednesday in the city of Faro, 70 kilometres away.
