Teen arrested in murder investigation released

A 17-YEAR-OLD arrested yesterday by gardaí in Killarney, arising from a continuing investigation into the murder of another teenager in the town last June, has been released without charge.

The youth was arrested at about 7.45am and brought to the local Garda station for questioning.

Gardaí confirmed that a file is being sent to the DPP.

The arrested youth was from the greater Killarney area.

This is the fourth arrest in connection with the killing of Stephen Lyne, aged 17, of Castle Falls, Ross Road, Killarney.

The Killarney Community College student’s body was found dead on a grass verge off the main road, just 300 metres from his home early on June 18.

He had a stab wound and was believed to have been attacked on his way home after a night out.

A 19-year-old youth who was arrested in Killarney, on June 23, arising from the investigation was later released without being charged and a file was prepared for the DPP.

Two 17-year-old locals were arrested, on July 1, and were also released without being charged. Gardaí said a file was being prepared for the DPP after their arrests.
