UPS to axe 200 call centre jobs

PACKAGE delivery company UPS announced it was to axe 200 jobs at its call centre operations in Tallaght by the end of next May.

The company claimed it had become increasingly difficult to staff the Tallaght facility, which deals with calls from across Europe, with local employees who had the required language skills.

It said that meant ā€œthe expensive propositionā€ of recruiting administrative employees in other countries and relocating them to Dublin. UPS said those staff would often return home after a short period meaning they would have to be replaced.
