IRELAND saw the largest decline in the value of foreign multinational investment of any European Union country last year, according to a new report.

The Central Statistics Office’s Measuring Ireland’s Progress report, is a 102-page study of where Ireland ranks against its EU counterparts based on economic, social and environmental indicators.

The report shows that for 2008, disinvestment or a fall in capital investment in Ireland by overseas companies meant that foreign direct investment (FDI) represented 4.5% less of the nation’s GDP than it did the previous year.
