‘Miracle’ stump attacked

A GRAFFITI attack has been carried out on Rathkeale’s tree stump which people claim projects the image of Our Lady.

Horrified local people discovered it had been damaged and sprayed with graffiti at the weekend.

Noel White, chairman of the Rathkeale Community Council, said: “It was sprayed with graffiti sometime on Saturday night by some small-minded individual. A number of local women removed the graffiti on Sunday.”

Thousands have visited the stump over the past two months after local Fás workers cut away willow in the church grounds as part of a clean-up of the area.
